Global Human Rights and EU values

Overview

Funding for research and action projects that strengthen human rights, gender equality, and EU values globally, with a focus on vulnerable groups, trade policy integration, and accountability mechanisms. Targets policymakers, civil society organizations, and researchers in the EU, Enlargement and Neighbourhood countries, and low- and lower-middle-income regions.

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include legal entities (public or private) from EU Member States, associated countries, and specified third countries. Consortia are encouraged, particularly those involving partners from the EU Neighbourhood, Western Balkans, and low- and lower-middle-income countries.

Funding Details

• Maximum grant amount: 5,000,000 EUR
• Funding is provided as a lump sum.

What Is Funded

Projects must address one or more of the following:

• Development of mechanisms for investigating and prosecuting international crimes.
• Empowerment of vulnerable groups (e.g., ethnic/religious minorities, people with disabilities, migrants, women, LGBTIQ individuals) through capacity-building, awareness-raising, and advocacy.
• Integration of human rights considerations into trade policies, supply chains, and labour standards.
• Research on the impact of EU foreign policy, sanctions, and trade agreements on human rights, including participatory approaches.
• Cooperation frameworks with third countries to ensure humanitarian assistance, security, and respect for international law.

Technology / Maturity Requirements

Projects must demonstrate a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) between 4 and 6.

Single-stage submission via the Funding & Tenders Portal. Proposals must adhere to the page limits and layout specified in the call documentation.

Geographic Scope & Language

• Eligible countries: EU Member States, associated countries (Norway, Iceland, United Kingdom, Switzerland), and specified third countries (EU Neighbourhood, Western Balkans, low- and lower-middle-income countries).
• Application language: English.

• International cooperation is strongly encouraged.
• Proposals should explore collaboration with existing EU-funded projects related to democracy support, civil society engagement, and sustainable peace.
• The granting authority may object to transfers of ownership or exclusive licensing of results for up to four years post-award.
