Funding for projects that enhance understanding of biomass flows in Europe, including supply, demand, sustainability, and resource efficiency. Targets consortia of public and private stakeholders developing digital tools, monitoring methods, and biomass management roadmaps.

Who Can Apply

Consortia of legal entities (e.g., research institutions, businesses, public bodies) from eligible countries. The Joint Research Centre (JRC) may participate as a beneficiary with zero funding or as an associated partner.

Funding Details

  • Maximum grant amount: 10,000,000 EUR
  • Funding form: Lump sum

What Is Funded

  • Development of innovative biomass monitoring, modeling, and digital tools (e.g., AI, remote sensing) at European, national, and regional scales.
  • Updated estimates of biomass supply and demand (current and projected to 2050), including sustainability risks and unmet demand.
  • Testing and demonstration of biomass reporting in at least 10 European countries with varying biomass potential.
  • Collaboration with EU initiatives (e.g., Circular Biobased Europe Joint Undertaking, BIOEAST) and alignment with EU policies on bioeconomy, circular economy, and biodiversity.

Application Process (High-Level)

Single-stage submission via the Funding & Tenders Portal. Proposals must adhere to page limits and layout specified in the Horizon Europe Work Programme General Annexes.

Notes

  • Projects must use Copernicus and/or Galileo/EGNOS for satellite-based data if applicable.
  • Proposals should consider synergies with existing EU initiatives and research projects (e.g., BIO2REG, CONCERTO).
  • The JRC may join the consortium but will not participate in proposal preparation.
